A Day in My Life: Finally Getting a Job

"When you're ready, remember that God has already planned ahead and you are well-seasoned for this moment."

A little 2 years I have been on an uphill battle, navigating the challenges of transitional housing while desperately trying to secure a job. It felt like I was throwing my resume into the void, only to receive rejection after rejection. I couldn’t help but wonder What is wrong with me? Was it my background? The gaps in my resume? Or maybe just the way hiring systems filter applications?

Despite these setbacks, I refused to give up. I pushed myself to build a solid portfolio, earning certifications in bookkeeping, tax preparation, and even cybersecurity. I was aiming for a remote job because transportation was a challenge, but nothing seemed to work. The pressure was real-time was running out, and I needed a stable income to afford an apartment.

Then, something unexpected happened. I wasn’t even planning on applying for a restaurant job that day. I just went to eat. But while I was there, I saw familiar faces. I casually asked, “Are you guys hiring?” And just like that, they handed me a form to fill out. It hit me if I hadn’t been there in that exact moment, if no one had taken me to that restaurant, this opportunity wouldn’t have happened.

The next day, I went back to complete the application on their computer. After I finished, the manager walked up to me, handed me a uniform and a hat. Just like that, I was hired. It felt surreal after all the applications, rejections, and stress, a simple, unplanned moment led me to a job.

"Stop! Put the blanket!"

I'm not yet done because I just started a week ago of my job. Honestly, I only have learn the theories at college about culinary arts. I was undergraduate of food technology and my working experience was behind the scene a call center agent answering calls and I haven't been expose to any front liner job. I am totaly new to environment so I hope they will bear with me lol. Since I'm really slow and careful in what I do. I tried to practice and remember things to streamline the process. I believe there is a systematic way in everything we do. So I am just thankful that I have an opportunity to work with great people who are patient to help me adjust. I am also thankful to the person behind this unexpected opportunity that opens for me. I won't celebrate yet since I have to learn things along the way. Just a pat on my back to remind me I'm actually doing a job that will help me sustain our needs.
